Lovable — my current daily driver

If I could only recommend one tool to a Pakistani founder starting from zero, it'd be Lovable. Full stop.

What it's great at. The chat-to-preview loop is the smoothest of any tool I've used. Errors are readable. It handles Supabase auth and database wiring almost invisibly. The generated code is production-shaped React, not a toy sandbox.

What it's not great at. Very heavy customization of build pipelines. Deep enterprise integrations. Games. Anything with an unusual framework.

Who it's for. Beginners. Non-technical founders. Anyone who wants to ship a real web app in a week without touching a terminal.

Cursor — for people who already read code

Cursor is a fork of VS Code with an extremely capable AI baked in. It doesn't hide the code from you. You still see files, folders, imports. The AI edits alongside you.

Great at. Working with large existing codebases. Refactors. Editing legacy code with a modern AI. Precision work.

Not great at. Absolute beginners. You'll still need to understand what a package.json is.

Who it's for. Developers, ex-developers, or advanced students transitioning from web tutorials.

I use Cursor whenever a Lovable project graduates to "we need custom integrations" territory. Perfect handoff tool.

Bolt.new — the speed demon

Bolt gives you a prompt box and a live preview in the same page. Type once, watch a Next.js app appear in about 20 seconds.

Great at. Very fast first drafts. Landing pages. Tiny demos. Client pitches — I've literally opened Bolt in a client meeting and produced a working prototype during the meeting.

Not great at. Long-lived projects with lots of iteration. You can hit its limits when the app gets big.

Who it's for. Anyone who wants to see something moving in under a minute. Agencies. Freelancers pitching ideas.

Replit — the all-in-one browser IDE

Replit is a full editor + hosting + AI Agent in one browser tab. Nothing to install.

Great at. School environments. Cheap laptops. Learners who want everything to live in a browser. Deploying instantly.

Not great at. Very ambitious full-stack apps still feel a bit stiff compared to Lovable's opinionated defaults.

Who it's for. Students. Teachers. Anyone whose primary machine is a Chromebook or shared computer.

Pakistan-specific notes

Payment. All four accept international cards. A virtual USD card from Nayapay or SadaPay handles this cleanly. Some Pakistani debit cards are randomly declined — a virtual USD card avoids the whole game.

VPN. None of them require a VPN in 2026 as far as I've seen. Some tools' billing portals throttle sometimes. If you hit a wall, Proton VPN or Mullvad for the checkout page only.

Latency. All four are fine on decent Pakistani broadband. On 3G, Lovable and Bolt feel snappier than Cursor, which pushes a lot of data.

Similar family, different focus. Copilot autocompletes code inside your editor. Cursor is a full editor built around AI collaboration. Cursor is more powerful for full-project edits.

Can I switch tools mid-project?
